Please read the group guidelines below before posting on the forum and joining the group calls.
Safety and Disclaimers
- All members must be 18+
- Do not use the group in the event of an emergency. If you have an urgent medical or mental-health concern, contact local emergency services or crisis support.
- Do not use the group for suicidal thoughts. If you have suicidal thoughts at any time, please dial 988 to connect with the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
- Do not use the group for medical advice. Coaching is not intended to replace the services of trained medical and mental health professionals.
- Although we will discuss food and you will receive guidance and suggestions, coaching is not intended to take the place of a registered dietician, and this is especially important if you have a health condition requiring special eating needs.
- By using the forum, coaching calls, and group resources you are agreeing to the Terms and Conditions for Group Coaching, and the Terms of Service for the Brain over Binge.
Respect & Privacy
- Always treat other members with respect, we have zero-tolerance for any hurtful, insulting, or derogatory language toward anyone.
- We’re adults. Occasional swear words are okay, and adult topics are fine when you feel they relate to recovery and are discussed respectfully.
- Share your own experience, but for privacy, do not share anyone else’s personal details or personally identifying information.
- Do not advertise products and services, this is a place for recovery and healing.
2 Recovery Goals
- The group is directed at helping you stop binge eating through the 2 Recovery Goals of Brain over Binge (dismissing urges and eating adequately). Although we will discuss many related topics, we will always remain solution-oriented in terms of those two goals.
- Share your wins! When you dismiss an urge, eat adequately, or navigate a tough moment without bingeing, share it on a call or post about it on the forum! Celebrating progress reinforces the two recovery goals.
Food, Calories, and Weight
- We will discuss eating with the goal of helping each member learn to nourish their body in a way that works for them. Know that no one’s eating will be exactly the same, as everyone has different needs and is in different phases of recovery.
- We may discuss calories in certain contexts to ensure adequate eating, but calorie counting is not required, and we will never promote calorie counting from a dieting perspective.
- Do not share restrictive food plans or weight loss diets. We can talk about recovery-promoting eating guidelines with the aim of working toward adequate eating.
- This is not a weight-loss group. Weight loss can be a natural and gradual result of stopping binge eating, and we can talk about weight as it relates to recovery and health, but do not promote weight loss or post before/after photos.
- Keep weight numbers out. Do not share exact weights, weigh-ins, clothing sizes, or a specific number of pounds lost or gained. We can talk about weight concerns or changes, body image, body comfort, and mindset—just without numbers or sizes. This reduces unhelpful comparison and keeps us focused on the two recovery goals.
- We can talk about specific foods as they are relevant to your recovery and learning to eat in a way that works for you. We can also talk about foods that are challenging to you and how to incorporate them. However, always be mindful of other members who may find it difficult to hear details about highly-stimulating foods. No one is powerless over comments about food, and Brain over Binge centers around knowing that the urge is the cause of a binge, not the triggers. At the same time, this is a place for healing, so as much as possible, talk more generally about highly-stimulating foods (for example, you can just say “chocolate” or “dessert” or “fast food” instead of describing a certain brand or type.)
- When it comes to bingeing itself, always keep any food details general. Do not share lists of specific foods consumed in a binge. If you believe any binge-food specifics are necessary for coaching, preface it by letting others know you’re going to share binge-food details so they can choose whether or not to read/listen.
Coaching Expectations from Kathryn
- I encourage you to join the live calls for direct coaching from me. The goal on every call is for every member who wants coaching to get coaching. The calls will be between 30 minutes and 1 hour depending on coaching needs.
- To request coaching from me on the forum, tag @brainoverbinge in the Coaching & Connection section of the forum. I will reply within 24 hours—the forum is meant for timely support, not live chat.
- For “in the moment” support when you’re having urges or need inspiration, go to the Motivation & Key Reminders section of the forum. There are several posts at the top to help you dismiss urges, stay focused on recovery, and navigate challenging moments.
Other Forum Instructions
There are three sections: Daily Check-Ins, Motivation & Key Reminders, and Coaching & Connection. Please read each section’s forum description for instructions and so that you understand the purpose of that section.
